The EuroSprinter is a family of modular electric locomotives built by Siemens for the European market. Based on the EuroSprinter concept, the ES 64 U was developed as an universal electric locomotive and put into service in Austria as ÖBB's Class 1016. The ÖBB assigned the name Taurus to the Class 1016 and later to other ES 64 U based ÖBB classes. Since then all ES 64 U-series are widely known in as the 'Taurus' locos.
