Data corrected with the 28 Nov 2016 Game Update.
The Great Western Railway in the UK built 38 diesel railcars of various designs between 1934 and 1942. Most carried passengers but two were built to carry parcels, as depicted in the game (but note that, in the game, it is classed as a locomotive and does not carry mail). They were used on branch lines, either on their own or towing a couple of coaches. The railcars were withdrawn from service in the 1960s and three survive on preserved railways.
| In 1933, the Great Western Railway introduced the first of what was to become a very successful series of railcars, which survived in regular use into the 1960s. The original design featured 'air-smoothed' bodywork, which was very much the fashion at the time. The rounded lines of the first examples built led to their nickname "flying banana". Later examples had much more angular (and practical) bodywork, yet the nickname persisted for these too.|
