Resources are the currency of TrainStation. These resources come in three forms: Gold, Gems, and Materials. They are used to buy everything in the game including Trains, Buildings, Decorations, Extensions, Themes, and more. Resources can also be required to complete Contractors and Achievements, and paying train dispatch fees.
Gold[]
Gold is the standard currency used throughout TrainStation. Gold is also used to pay the dispatch tax on Common Steam Locomotives, Common Hyperloop Locomotives, Uncommon Steam Locomotives, Uncommon Diesel Locomotives, Uncommon Electric Locomotives, Uncommon Maglev Locomotives, Uncommon Hyperloop Locomotives, Grand Steam Locomotives, Grand Diesel Locomotives, Grand Electric Locomotives, Grand Maglev Locomotives, Grand Hyperloop Locomotives, Superb Steam Locomotives, Superb Diesel Locomotives, Superb Electric Locomotives, Superb Maglev Locomotives, Superb Hyperloop Locomotives, Epic Steam Locomotives, Epic Diesel Locomotives, Epic Electric Locomotives, Epic Maglev Locomotives, Epic Hyperloop Locomotives. Gold can be earned many different ways:
- Dispatching Local Trains with filled passenger/mail wagons
- Completing Contractors
- Completing Achievements
- Collecting Express Trains
- Collecting International Trains from Neighbors
- From the Daily Rewards
- Visiting new neighbor stations.
- Leveling
- Selling items

Mail[]
Mail is a secondary resource used in TrainStation. It only has one purpose: to fill Mail Wagons and Passenger and Mail Wagons . When loaded on Local Trains, it earns Gold for the player. When loaded on International Trains, it sends Gold to Contractors or Neighbors. Mail can be earned many different ways:
- Clicking on Balloons at the player's station.
- Collecting Chests at the player or neighbor's stations.
- Completing Contractors
- Completing Achievements
Note: Maximum the player can have is 30,000,000,000,000.

Gems are TrainStation’s premium currency. See Gems.
Materials[]
Materials are the building blocks of TrainStation. They are used to buy items and extensions, complete contracts and achievements, dispatch trains, and more. There are currently 24 types of materials and they can be earned by:
- Dispatching Local Trains with Cargo Wagons.
- Completing Contractors.
- Completing Achievements.
- Collecting Express Trains. (except for Hyperloops)
- Collecting International Trains from Neighbors.
- Receiving Gifts from neighbors.
- Waking up Neighbors at abandoned stations.
- Visiting new Neighbor stations.
- From the Daily Rewards.
- Leveling.
- Playing the Portal's Mini-game.
- Material can be earning by Facebook Page, the Pixel Portal Gift Page, or thru Trainstation Twitter.
Note: Maximum the player can have is 30,000,000,000,000.

Seasonal Materials[]
Seasonal materials are the event materials of TrainStation. The image below shows how seasonal materials is layout to the players.
They are used to buy items only, complete contracts and achievements. There are currently 16 types of materials and they can be earned by:
- Completing Contractors.
- Completing Achievements.
- Bill's deal can also be offered to the player for a limited time (for 12 hours (see the image below for example)).
Note: Any leftover from an expired time allocated, will exchange to a special flag version. (See image in explanation detail on seasonal materials being an exchange for flags.)
