Icon Local Trains
Local trains are the player's primary source of gold and materials. They are critical in obtaining the resources needed to buy locomotives, wagons, buildings, station upgrades, and other items needed to progress through the game. These trains are dispatched on journeys lasting anywhere from five minutes to one week in real-time duration. The longer the journey, the less efficient it is, as you will see below. Also, the more Local Tracks a player has, the more simultaneous trains can be sent at once.

LOADING BONUS: About halfway through the journey duration selected, the train will arrive at its destination (typically displayed as a loading dock or town) and wait there for a certain period of time to 'load' the train. This wait period is about 9-10% of the chosen total journey time. A six minute trip waits about 40 seconds, a 10m trip waits about 1m, a 30m trip waits about 3m, and so on.

If you visit the train and load (click) it manually, you will receive an additional bonus of 20% of the gold/materials it will provide upon completion. For example, if the train will bring 1000 of a material from a journey, when you load it manually, you will get 200 extra material on top of the 1000 it will bring to your station when it returns. This step is optional, and if the wait period expires, the train will return to your station automatically.

Also worth noting is that the total trip time includes this waiting period. A 30m trip takes about 13:45 to reach the destination, and 13:45 to return, leaving the ~3 minute wait in the middle. Therefore, the entire trip time can be reduced by loading the train manually as soon as possible. This immediately starts the return leg, eliminating the remainder of the waiting period, and finishing the trip quicker.

Calculating incomeEdit

A normal journey of 10 minutes will yield 10 Material (except Hyperloops which give 18). This is the standard upon which all of the other calculations are based. Shorter journeys are more profitable per journey, yet they require much more of a player's time to manage. The material income for each journey length reflects this trade-off between profitability and manageability. In addition, the following holds true for every journey length:

  • Passenger income = Material income * 15%
  • Mail income = Material income * 1%
  • XP income does not have a consistent relationship with Material income.

NOTE: Due to the high cost of dispatching Hyperloops trains, PF raised the yields for these trains. See the Hyperloop Yields table below.

FormulaeEdit

When using these formulae, round to the nearest integer after each step.
If the number to be rounded is exactly halfway between two integers (fractional part is 0.5), use either the round half up method or the round half to even method. Choose one method, then use it consistently.
The final result may be slightly different (less than 1%) from the result rewarded by the game. This is due to small differences in rounding methods. Even so, the result will be highly accurate.

  • For Passenger or Mail or XP:

          (wagon capacity + bonuses) x journey yield (from table) = income in Gold or XP

  • For Material:

          journey yield (from table) + bonuses = income in Material

ExamplesEdit

Please note: The following examples use the round half to even rounding method.

  • Dispatching a DRB Class 52 with 8 Emerald Mail on a 10-minute journey will give this result:
    1. Wagon capacity is 1,000 Mail.
    2. 1,000 × 0.1 (journey yield) = income of 100 Gold per wagon
    3. 100 Gold per wagon x 8 wagons = total income of 800 Gold

  • Dispatching a DDA40X Big Jack with 4 Lumberjack, 4 Wood Shipper, and 4 Nailer on a 30-minute journey will give this result:
    1. Lumberjack:
      1. Journey yield for 30 minutes (from table) = 18
      2. 18 x 20% = 18 x 0.2 = 3.6 ==> round to bonus of 4 per wagon
      3. 18 + 4 = 22
      4. 22 x 40% (diesel bonus) = 22 x 0.4 = 8.8 ==> round to bonus of 9 per wagon
      5. 22 + 9 = 31 Wood total per wagon
      6. 31 Wood x 4 wagons = 124 Wood for Lumberjack
    2. Wood Shipper:
      1. Journey yield for 30 minutes (from table) = 18
      2. 18x 70% = 18 x 0.7 = 12.6 ==> round to bonus of 13 per wagon
      3. 18 + 13 = 31
      4. 31 x 40% (diesel bonus) = 31 * 0.4 = 12.4 ==> round to bonus of 12 per wagon
      5. 31 + 12 = 43 Wood total per wagon
      6. 43 Wood x 4 wagons = 172 Wood for Wood Shipper
    3. Nailer:
      1. Journey yield for 30 minutes (from table) = 18
      2. 18 x 40% (diesel bonus) = 18 x 0.4 = 7.2 ==> round to bonus of 7 per wagon
      3. 18 + 7 = 25 Nails total per wagon
      4. 25 Nails x 4 wagons = 100 Nails for Nailer
    4. 124 Wood + 172 Wood + 100 Nails = total income of 296 Wood + 100 Nails

  • Dispatching a F59PHI Runner with 13 Runner Coach on a 1-hour journey will give this result:
    1. Wagon capacity is 235 Passenger
    2. 235 x 30% (wagon bonus) = 235 x 0.3 = 70.5 ==> round to bonus of 70 per wagon
    3. 235 + 70 = 305
    4. 305 x 45% (set bonus) = 305 x 0.45 = 137.25 ==> round to bonus of 137 per wagon
    5. 305 + 137 = 442
    6. 442 x 40% (diesel bonus) = 442 x 0.4 = 176.8 ==> round to bonus of 177 per wagon
    7. 442 + 177 = 619
    8. 619 x 4.05 (journey yield) = income of 2,507 Gold per wagon
    9. 2,507 Gold x 13 wagons = total income of 32,591 Gold

  • Dispatching an ETR-500 with 15 Cement Shipper and 1 ETR-500 Tail on a 1-day journey will give this result:
    1. Cement Shipper:
      1. Journey yield for 1 day (from table) = 280
      2. 280 x 70% (wagon bonus) = 280 x 0.7 = bonus of 196 per wagon
      3. 280 + 196 = 476 Cement total per wagon
      4. 476 Cement x 15 wagons = 7,140 Cement for Cement Shipper
    2. ETR-500 Tail:
      1. Journey yield for 1 day (from table) = 40
      2. 40 x 285% (wagon bonus) = 40 x 2.85 = bonus of 114
      3. 40 + 114 = income of 154 XP for ETR-500 Tail
    3. 7,140 Cement + 154 XP = total income of 7,140 Cement + 154 XP

  1. 1.0 1.1 This column shows each journey's total yield, divided by the number of minutes in the journey. Shorter journeys have higher profitability but are more difficult to manage. A 1-week journey generates 91% less income than an equivalent number of 10-minute journeys.
  2. 2.0 2.1 The journey yields for XP were accurate as of 18 Mar 2015. Pixel Federation rebalances the XP journey yields occasionally. When using the yields in this table, the calculated total sometimes differs from the game's total by one, or two at the most. If the calculated total differs from the game's total by more than two, then Pixel has rebalanced the yields, and the table must be updated.
  3. Reduced to 5 min from previous 6 min with the 27 Dec 2016 Game Update.
  4. 4.0 4.1 Special Timied Destination introduced with the 13 Feb 2017 Game Update for all players at level 150.
    With the 6 Mar 2017 Game Update some parameters were changed:
    Level requirement: 80 (down from 150);
    Train travel time: 7 minutes (down from 8 minutes);
    Cool down time : 8h (down from 22h);
    Balance has been changed accordingly to other changes.
    Previously as beta-test available to randomly selected players with the 16 Jan 2017 Game Update.
  5. 5.0 5.1 5.2 5.3 Available only during special events
  6. This number is the foundation of the entire table. Pixel Federation started with this number, then used it as a basis for calculating the rest of the table.
  7. This destination is awarded upon completion of Ethan II. It only accepts maglev trains.
  8. The minimum level required to start completing Ethan II's contracts.

DestinationsEdit

Special Timed DestinationEdit

Destination Metropolis
With the 13 Feb 2017 Game Update a new form of Local Trains destination was introduced and available for all players at level 80.

It is a 7-minute destination but produces cargo/gold at just over what you would get for a normal 2-hour journey. The special feature of this destination is its 25 minute timer which starts to count down after the first train is dispatched to this destination. Once this 25 minutes elapses, there is a cool down time of 8 hours before this destination becomes available again.

With the 6 Mar 2017 Game Update, the level requirement was lowered from 150 to 80, travel time lowered from 8 to 7 minutes, cooldown time lowered from 22 to 8 hours, and duration lowered from 45 to 25 minutes.

Standard destinationsEdit

The name of the standard destination to which a train is dispatched varies based on the type of locomotive, the type of wagons pulled, and the length of the journey, as shown in the table below.

Special event destinationsEdit

When a special event destination is active, all trains visit the same destination, regardless of type of locomotive or types of wagons hauled. Special event destinations always have a journey length of 20 minutes, yet the journey yield is slightly less than the yield for a 60-minute journey. The table below shows the history of special event destinations.
